History & Origins of Victory Day
Victory Day (Zafer Bayramı) in Turkey, celebrated on August 30th, commemorates the decisive victory at the Battle of Dumlupınar on August 30, 1922. This battle was the final engagement in the Turkish War of Independence, where Turkish forces led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk routed the occupying Greek army, paving the way for the establishment of the modern Republic of Turkey.
