How to use the Pomodoro Timer

The Pomodoro Technique is a highly effective time management system developed by Francesco Cirillo. It breaks work into manageable intervals, typically 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. These intervals are known as "pomodoros".

The Method

  1. Pick a task - Type exactly what you are working on in the task input.
  2. Start the timer - Focus fiercely on the task until the alarm rings.
  3. Take a short break - Step away from your screen to recharge.
  4. Every 4 pomodoros, take a longer break - Usually 15-30 minutes. Our timer tracks your sessions automatically!

Customizing Your Timings

While the classic 25/5 method works well for most, every workflow is different. Click the gear icon (Settings) below the timer to fully customize your intervals:

  • Pomodoro Length: Change your work intervals from 1 to 90 minutes. Try 50 minutes for deep coding sessions or 15 minutes for micro-sprints.
  • Break Durations: Customize both the short break (default 5m) and the long break (default 15m) to fit your energy cycles.
  • Long Break Interval: Adjust how many work sessions it takes to trigger a long break (e.g., after 3 or 4 sessions).
  • Auto-Cycle Mode: Toggle auto-cycle on to make the timer flow seamlessly from work to break and back without needing to click Start each time.
