Madeira Day (Dia da Madeira) in Portugal, observed on July 1st, celebrates the autonomy of the Madeira archipelago. It commemorates the landmark date in 1976 when Madeira was granted political and administrative self-governing status in the new Portuguese Constitution, honoring the unique culture, history, and independence of the islanders.
