History & Origins of Bonifacio Day
Bonifacio Day is observed in the Philippines on November 30th. Unlike other national heroes whose death anniversaries are marked, Bonifacio's holiday celebrates his birth on November 30, 1863. Andres Bonifacio was the founder and supreme leader of the 'Katipunan', the secret revolutionary society that launched the armed struggle against Spanish colonial rule in 1896, earning him the title 'Father of the Philippine Revolution'.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
Official wreath-laying ceremonies are held at the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City. Civic groups, labor unions, and student organizations organize historical symposiums, parades, and cultural performances reflecting on patriotism and social justice.
