History & Origins of National Day Holiday
The National Day Holiday in the United Arab Emirates, celebrated on December 2nd and 3rd, commemorates the historic unification of the seven emirates in 1971. Led by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the rulers of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah (later joined by Ras Al Khaimah) signed a treaty establishing the federal state of the UAE.
