Guide to the date, history, cultural origins and celebration traditions of Arafat Day in United Arab Emirates.
History & Origins of Arafat Day
Arafat Day, observed on the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar, is the pinnacle event of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. It commemorates the day when the Prophet Muhammad delivered his historic Farewell Sermon on Mount Arafat. According to Islamic theology, standing on Mount Arafat from noon until sunset is an essential pilgrimage ritual, representing a dress rehearsal for the Day of Judgment, where souls seek ultimate forgiveness.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
For non-pilgrims worldwide, the day is marked by rigorous fasting, intense personal prayer (Dua), repentance, and preparing their homes for the major Eid al-Adha feast starting the following morning.
