Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day in Turkey, observed on May 19th, marks the date in 1919 when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived in Samsun to launch the Turkish War of Independence. Atatürk dedicated this pivotal historical date to the youth of Turkey, whom he viewed as the guardians and future leaders of the newly founded secular republic.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
Celebrated with athletic performances, sports competitions, folk dancing, and state ceremonies at the Anıtkabir mausoleum in Ankara, along with patriotic youth marches across all provinces.
