Makha Bucha Day is an important Buddhist holiday in Thailand, celebrated on the full moon of the third lunar month. It commemorates an extraordinary event that occurred nine months after the Buddha attained enlightenment: a spontaneous assembly of 1,250 enlightened monks (Arahants) who gathered to meet the Buddha without any prior appointment. The Buddha delivered the 'Ovadapatimokkha', outlining the core ethical principles of Buddhism: to avoid evil, to do good, and to purify the mind.
