History & Origins of Father's Day
Father's Day in Thailand, celebrated on December 5th, honors the birthday of the late, highly revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). Regarded as the symbolic father of the Thai nation, his birthday was designated as national Father's Day to pay tribute to his decades of royal dedication and to celebrate the role of fathers in the family.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
Thais celebrate by wearing yellow (the color of the King's birthday, Monday), presenting their fathers with the traditional canna flower (dok phuttha raksa) representing peace, and volunteering in community service projects.
