History & Origins of Pentecost
Pentecost (or Whit Sunday) is observed fifty days after Easter Sunday, commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ, as described in the Book of Acts. Historically, it is regarded as the birth of the Christian Church. The name originates from the Greek word 'pentekoste', meaning fiftieth, reflecting its roots in the ancient Jewish festival of Shavuot.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
Churches are decorated in bright red vestments and banners symbolizing the tongues of fire. Celebrants participate in choral services, confirmations, and enjoy outdoor spring walks and community gatherings.
