History & Origins of National Day of Spain
The National Day of Spain (Fiesta Nacional de España), celebrated on October 12th, commemorates the historic date in 1492 when Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas, marking the expansion of Spanish culture and language across the globe. It was formally legislated as the national day in 1987 by King Juan Carlos I.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
Celebrated with a spectacular military and police parade in Madrid, presided over by the King of Spain and the prime minister, featuring a flypast by the Patrulla Águila aerobatic team displaying the red and yellow national colors.
