Galician Literature Day (Dia das Letras Galegas), celebrated on May 17th in Galicia, Spain, was established in 1963 to honor writers who write in the Galician language. It commemorates the historic date in 1863 when romantic poet Rosalía de Castro published 'Cantares Galegos', the first major literary work written entirely in Galician, sparking a cultural renaissance.
