History & Origins of Day of Andalucía
Day of Andalucía (Día de Andalucía) is celebrated on February 28th. It commemorates the historic referendum of February 28, 1980, in which Andalusian voters overwhelmingly approved the initiative to grant Andalusia full autonomy under the Spanish Constitution, redefining regional self-governance.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
Towns are decorated with the green-and-white Andalusian flag. Schools host traditional breakfasts of toasted bread drizzled with olive oil and sugar (Hoyo), and community squares feature live flamenco performances and civic awards.
