History & Origins of National Foundation Day
National Foundation Day (Gaecheonjeol, meaning 'the day heaven opened') in South Korea, celebrated on October 3rd, commemorates the legendary founding of Gojoseon, the first Korean kingdom, in 2333 BCE by Dangun, the mythical god-king born of a heavenly prince and a bear-turned-woman.

A highly historic holiday celebrated with traditional ceremonies at Mount Manisan, where Dangun is said to have offered sacrifices, colorful street parades, and cultural festivals showcasing ancient Korean folklore.
