History & Origins of Deepavali

Deepavali (also known as Diwali) is the Hindu festival of lights, celebrating the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Historically, in South India and Malaysia, it commemorates the slaying of the demon king Narakasura by Lord Krishna and Satyabhama, allowing citizens to welcome peace and prosperity.

How It Is Observed & Celebrated

Celebrated by lighting small clay oil lamps (diyas) around homes, drawing elaborate colorful floor patterns (kolams), wearing traditional silk clothes, visiting temples, and sharing sweet delicacies like laddu and murukku.
