Restoration of Independence (Restauração da Independência) in Portugal is celebrated on December 1st. It commemorates the coup d'état on December 1, 1640, led by Portuguese nobles (The Forty Conspirators) who overthrew the ruling Spanish Habsburg dynasty, ending 60 years of the Iberian Union and restoring the Portuguese crown under King John IV of the House of Braganza.
