Ninoy Aquino Day, observed in the Philippines on August 21st, commemorates the tragic assassination of former Senator Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino Jr. upon his return from exile at the Manila International Airport on August 21, 1983. His death galvanized the democratic opposition against the Ferdinand Marcos regime, culminating in the peaceful 1986 People Power Revolution.
