History & Origins of Quaid-e-Azam Day
Quaid-e-Azam Day is a national holiday in Pakistan on December 25th. It celebrates the birthday (December 25, 1876) of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, known as Quaid-e-Azam (Great Leader), the founder of Pakistan. Jinnah was a brilliant lawyer and statesman who led the political movement that secured the creation of Pakistan as a sovereign homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent in 1947.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
It is marked by flag hoisting ceremonies on government buildings, the changing of the guard ceremony at the Mazar-e-Quaid (Jinnah's Mausoleum) in Karachi, and seminars detailing his constitutional vision for the nation.
