History & Origins of Kannada Rajyotsava
Kannada Rajyotsava (Karnataka Formation Day) commemorates November 1, 1956, when all the Kannada-speaking regions of South India were unified to form the state of Mysore (later renamed Karnataka in 1973) following the historic States Reorganisation Act.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
The red-and-yellow Karnataka flag is hoisted widely across government buildings, schools, and homes. The day is celebrated with grand cultural pageants, state awards (Rajyotsava Awards) presented by the Chief Minister, and Kannada poetry recitations.
