History & Origins of Army Day
Army Day (Día de las Glorias del Ejército) in Chile is celebrated on September 19th. Formally established in 1915 by President Ramón Barros Luco, it commemorates the historical achievements, patriotism, and victories of the Chilean Army in securing the nation's independence during the 19th-century wars against Spanish rule.
How It Is Observed & Celebrated
It is celebrated with the magnificent 'Gran Parada Militar' (Great Military Parade) in Santiago's O'Higgins Park, attended by the Chilean president and military command, and regional festivities in local traditional 'fondas'.
