Heritage Day in South Africa, celebrated on September 24th, encourages citizens to celebrate their diverse cultural heritage, beliefs, and traditions in a unified nation. Historically, the day was celebrated in KwaZulu-Natal as Shaka Day, honoring the legendary Zulu King Shaka. In the post-apartheid era, it was transformed into a national day of cultural unity, popularly dubbed 'National Braai Day'.

South Africans celebrate by wearing beautiful traditional cultural attire representing their specific heritage (Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaans, Indian, etc.) and hosting massive outdoor barbecues (braais) with friends and neighbors.
