Armistice Day in Canada, which shares its historical origin with Remembrance Day, commemorates the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne on November 11, 1918, effectively ending hostilities on the Western Front of World War I 'at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month'.

Observed with formal ceremonies at local cenotaphs, a national two minutes of silence at 11:00 AM, and wearing red poppies as a symbol of remembrance for the fallen.
