History & Origins of National Sovereignty Day
National Sovereignty Day (Día de la Soberanía Nacional) in Argentina, observed on the fourth Monday of November, commemorates the historic Battle of Vuelta de Obligado on November 20, 1845. In this pivotal battle, Argentine forces led by General Lucio Mansilla, despite being heavily outnumbered, bravely resisted a joint Anglo-French naval blockade of the Paraná River, defending Argentina's territorial integrity and river sovereignty.
