What this tool does

  • Optional microphone-based volume meter
  • No recording or upload
  • Adjustable sensitivity
  • Manual demo mode if microphone access is blocked
  • Stop button for microphone and demo mode

Use it as a visual cue

A classroom noise meter helps students see when the room is getting louder. It is most useful when paired with clear expectations such as quiet work, partner voices, table voices, or presentation mode.

Privacy note

The meter uses browser audio levels only after microphone permission is granted. It does not store classroom audio, send audio to a server, or identify speakers.

Practical setup

Place the device near the teacher desk or center of the room. Adjust sensitivity so normal partner talk sits in the green or yellow range and shouting reaches red.

Classroom Noise Meter FAQ

Does the classroom noise meter record audio?

No. The tool reads microphone volume levels in the browser for visualization only. It does not save, upload, or transcribe audio.

Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?

The browser requires permission before any page can read microphone volume. If permission is denied, you can still use manual demo mode.

How do I stop the noise meter?

Click Stop Meter to turn off the live microphone meter or demo animation. This stops the microphone tracks in the browser and resets the display.

Is a noise meter a discipline tool?

It works best as a shared visual cue. Set expectations before group work and use the meter to help students self-monitor volume.
